(SCC) — The Saipan Chamber of Commerce commends Governor Arnold I. Palacios for writing to President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on April 26, 2024 to initiate consultations between the CNMI and the U.S. pursuant to Section 902 of the Covenant.
This important first step demonstrates Governor Palacios’ commitment to addressing critical issues affecting the relationship between the CNMI and the United States. SCC is in full support of the governor’s list of priority issues which include direct financial assistance; tourism and infrastructure; and access to skilled labor.
“Similar to past Section 902 consultations, the SCC stands ready to support Governor Palacios and the CNMI delegation, including House and Senate leaders,” said SCC President Joe C. Guerrero.
At a recent meeting, the SCC Board of Directors unanimously commended Governor Palacios and affirmed its commitment to working with his administration to advocate for CNMI interests to ensure that our community’s needs and aspirations are effectively presented.
The SCC strongly believes that engagement with the United States through Section 902 will bring significant benefits to our islands, fostering economic development, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall quality of life for all our residents.
As a collective voice of the business community, SCC is excited and looks forward to working with Governor Palacios toward achieving meaningful outcomes for our Marianas.
