He said the decrease in the number of Japanese students who visited the island last December was due to the lack of information dissemination.
“Some parents were not informed or they were informed late about the scheduled trip,” the mayor said.
Guam, moreover, decided not to host the cultural exchange students in December, Tudela added.
He said Saipan “is always committed to accommodate” Japanese students.
There were seven Japanese students and one chaperone that visited the island from Dec. 25 to 31.
According to the mayor, they enjoyed the Chamorro entertainment and culture during their brief stay on island.
“Some of them were even crying and they didn’t want to go home. They were begging to their sponsor that they be allowed to stay a little longer,” Tudela said.
He said the visiting students learned a lot about the historical and tourist sites of the island and the culture of the local people.
