“We humbly ask your undivided and unanimous support in preserving and keeping our FY 2011 budget request intact and unchanged,” he said in a letter to Sen. Jovita M. Taimanao, Ind.-Rota.
Camacho said the budget proposal they submitted was “meticulously scrutinized to the bare minimum” to allow them to operate the council’s office and pursue its mission.
The budget includes $131,356 for the council’s full-time employees.
Camacho said the council’s programs include: the plan to install a watch program in every village, school, parish and retail business; the neighborhood revitalization and enhancement project, the establishment of an additional debris staging and solid waste transfer station, and the leadership memorial courtyard.
He said the council recently launched the first community gardening for juvenile delinquents.
The council, he added, has also initiated the planning for the Saipan home numbering project while working with a vendor in extending health insurance privileges in Asia to members of the Association of Pacific Islands Local Government, of which the council is a member.
Camacho said they also secured a share of the post-secondary scholarship fund of the Association of Mariana Islands Mayors, Vice Mayors and Elected Municipal Council Members.
According to Camacho, they are also working with Congressman Gregorio C. Sablan to resolve issues of local farmers, particularly crop insurance.
Camacho said they want to make “the necessary investments in the quality of life in the inner villages, rehabilitate Saipan’s unique historic assets, revive alternate industries, form linkages and networks within and perform outreach missions.”
“This can only happen when we harmonize our ideals with our visions and provide the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council the tools needed by way of the current fiscal year budget requested,” he told Taimanao.
