This is the position of the municipal council chairman Ramon B. Camacho and vice chairman Eric Demapan Diaz.
But Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores has already nominated Ralph Yumul to fill the council’s vacant third seat.
Camacho earlier said that the council, despite having two members only, could still conduct its business.
Diaz agreed.
“I don’t think we need a third council member,” he said.
However, Diaz concedes that the Saipan mayor has the constitutional authority to nominate a member, but he believes that the Northern Islands mayor should also be consulted.
A special mayoral poll for the Northern Islands has been scheduled for next month by the Supreme Court to resolve the disputed Nov. 7 election results.
