Saipan-Korea cultural exchange program open for participants

PLANS are underway for the annual Saipan-Korea Students Cultural Exchange Program sponsored by the Saipan Jaycees Inc.

This year’s trip is tentatively scheduled for July. Around 25 students are expected to join. Students who have a 3.0 grade point average or better are encouraged to participate as this is one of the top criteria in selecting participants.

The cost of joining this year’s trip is $300 for room and board, as well as for other expenses which must be paid by May 10. The cost of roundtrip airfare transportation will be shouldered by the Saipan Jaycees.

Saipan Jaycees President, Lee Joong-Bok, in his letter to Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela said, “This worthwhile program ensures a better understanding and cooperation between our country and the people of the CNMI.”

This is the 11th year of the program’s inception under which Chamorro and Carolinian students travel to Korea to see the culture and tradition of the country, and visit historic, cultural and government sites.

Tudela said he fully supports the program, and looks forward to seeing its continuity. A one-day golf tournament has been planned for May 18 to help support the program.

The Saipan Jaycees can be contacted at 235-3366 for more details about the golf tournament
