Saipan mayor’s office collects 20K cubic yards of solid waste

“The challenge in our collection of trash and debris has been equipment and manpower,” she said.

But the mayor’s office, she added, has been assisted by 20 personnel from a Northern Marianas Housing Corp./Housing and Urban Development program since March 18, 2019.

In addition, the Workforce Investment Agency has provided 30 field personnel since December 2018, Aquino said.

“Lots of trash” also had to be collected after the Bureau of Environmental Health intensified its campaign against garbage in residential areas, she added.

She said the mayor’s office will continue to help remove typhoon-related trash from residential areas, but members of the public must segregate their trash: green waste, e-waste, and other debris.

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang said the operations section of his office played a large role in removing and disposing debris after Super Typhoon Yutu.

He said his office has acquired a new roller compactor, a dump truck, and a hydro-mower to better perform its work of cleaning up the island.
