Mayor David M. Apatang said he wants the train engine “fixed.”
“We will use aluminum or other materials that don’t rust,” he said, adding that the train engine needs to be repaired.
Apatang said his office is now looking for a funding source for the the project, which based on price quotations will cost anywhere from $15,000 to $17,000.

The mayor said his office will also install additional solar lights at the park.
The mayor’s office continues to maintain the park, which features the statue of the Japanese era “sugar king,” Haruji Matsue, and the Komainu, a hexagonal hall of prayer with a peace bell.
Apatang said he wants to preserve the historical significance of the park so it can attract more visitors during special events, especially in October when the Japanese community holds the Autumn Festival and the Katori Jinja ceremony.
