“We are focusing on tourist sites,” the mayor’s field operations director Joann Aquino said, adding that they are helping the island prepare for the reopening of the tourism industry in July.
Although limited in manpower, the mayor’s office has “maximized” its field personnel to complete the job as soon as possible, she added.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions that have severely affected the CNMI economy, the mayor’s office terminated 24 field personnel.
But Aquino said this has not stopped their delivery of services to the community. “We’re still doing our best,” she added.
She said the mayor’s office also repairs secondary roads, grading and compacting them with base course gravel.
Lack of funding to purchase base course gravel has been a challenge, she added.
“It’s very difficult for us to get material because the budget is very limited,” she said.
