Saipan mayor’s office to replace damaged, missing street signs, poles

The project will be simultaneously implemented with the distribution of home or building numbers on Saipan, he added.

Under the law,  maintaining and replacing street signs  is now the responsibility of the Saipan mayor’s office and not the Department of Public Works.

But DPW has submitted a disaster-recovery funding application for the replacement of street signs and poles on Saipan, and will work with the mayor’s office when it begins installing new street signs.

Hofschneider said the mayor’s office has also identified 280 roads that have no names or have not been named.

Saipan Local Law 5-6, which established the Saipan Street Directory Commission, also provides for 32 different street name themes.

Hofschneider said, “Families and property owners living on an unnamed road can recommend a name for it.”
