Club president Ladyvir DLC. Canape said they were able to raise $500 during their hot lunch fundraising campaign.
“We are all in a position to help in whatever means we can to support our fellowmen in Japan,” she said.
NMI Japan Disaster Relief organizers Nick Nishikawa, Japanese Society of the NMI chairman and Hotel Association of Northern Mariana Islands president; Yoichi Matsumura, Japanese Society of the CNMI vice chairman; and Naotsugu Suzuki, Kingfisher executive general manager; received the donation at the Hyatt Regency Hotel’s general manager’s office.
Nishikawa said all donations will be turned over to the Japanese government through its consulate on Saipan.
“We expressed our great appreciation for all who have donated,” he said.
He said they will continue to accept donations until the end of June.
On March 17, the Japan Disaster Relief was launched and collected $7,000 during the street market in Garapan, Matsumura said.
He said they have distributed donation boxes to different restaurants, stores and golf courses on island.
The campaign, he added, is in collaboration with the CNMI government, especially the governor’s office and the Marianas Visitors Authority.
This Saturday, he said they are expecting thousands of community members to join the fund drive at the Garapan Fishing Base.
Canape, for her part, thanked “those who bought our hot lunches, and to all the members of the club for their efforts and contributions to make the fundraising event a success.”
With Canape were Region II District 204 1st vice governor Pastor Gagaring, zone chairman Jose Pepito Digno, 1st vice president Sancho Escober, 2nd vice president Orlie Ebuen, secretary Ruth Torrecampo, treasurer Noemi Catigan, tail twister Willy Wagan, directors Saturnino Banting, Argie Buensalido, Guillermo T. Canape Jr., Beth Escober, honorary member Vic Venus, members Lucy Buensalido, Adrialen Dela Cruz, Donato Galvez, Joey Julianda and Aida Gagaring.
