Saluta, 40, voluntarily surrendered after learning that a warrant had been issued for his arrest on the charge of assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
The Department of Public Safety earlier said it was looking for Saluta in connection with a disturbance incident at the Fina Sisu Market last year.
Judge David A. Wiseman issued the warrant on Sept. 16.
On April 19, 2009, DPS received a call of a disturbance at the Fina Sisu Market.
“Saluta was the suspect in the case in which he assaulted another male at the market with a knife,” DPS said.
The Attorney General’s Office said Saluta assaulted Alejandro Orellano with a knife.
A penal summons was not served to Saluta for his Jan. 4, 2010 court hearing, a staffer from the Superior Court told the Variety.
Saluta earlier told the Variety that he wanted to be “cleared” of the charges against him.
Saluta has been unemployed since April 2007 while his wife lost her job in 2003.
Saluta arrived on Saipan in 1997. His wife arrived in 1994.
Their children are 7, 6, 4, 2 years old and 7 months old.
