San Vicente school acquires new sports gear

On Friday, 686 students, their classroom teachers and school staffs members marked the first quarter Field Day with games and activities.

San Vicente Elementary School principal Joaquina DLG Salas said the Public School System, through its Innovative Assistance Program, has allocated federal funds for the purchase of sports equipment.

Previously, Salas said, the school had to borrow sports equipment whenever they had sports events.

Field Day program coordinator and fourth grade teacher Rhonda Camacho said aside from the quarterly Field Day, the school conducts at least 60 minutes of physical education activities every week.

For the first quarter Field Day, the school had six stations where students had to perform activities for 30 to 45 minutes.

The games included tug-of-war, badminton, dodge ball, hula-hoops, jumping ropes and water sports.

Salas said they also gave special recognition to sixth grade student Angelina Manabat who placed seventh in the Spelling Bee competition on Guam, and the San Vicente students who won awards during the recent primary forensic grade competitions.
