Santos, Lizama are Oleai’s top sixth graders

School principal Glenn Muna and Education Commissioner Rita Sablan named Keina Jewel Fujihira Santos as this year’s recipient of the Commissioner’s Award.

Santos also received the “A” Honor Award, the Perfect Attendance Award, the President’s Excellence Award and Subject Awards in Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.

Ursula Lizama received the Principal’s Award.

 She also received the “A” Honor Award, the President’s Excellence Award, the Leadership Award, and Subject Awards in Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies.

The Commissioner’s Award is given to student with the highest grade point average while the Principal’s Award goes to the student with the second highest GPA.

The rest of the top 10 students are Angeline Orsini, Braylan Floresca, Noemi Caacbay, Jenella Nelmida, Yoneil Maniacop, John Taisacan, Jenny Rose Habijan and Janelle Achondo.

“We have truly enjoyed working with you and watching you grow academically and personally. You have delighted us with your many achievements in and out of class,” said Muna in his message to the graduates.

He encouraged parents to continue supporting their children as they prepare themselves for middle school.

Parents, he added, should provide guidance because this is the “most critical” period of their children’s life.

Cancer survivor Angelray Tudela Guerrero, 14, gave an inspirational message to the students.

He told them not to stop trying until their dream comes true, never say they will not succeed, accept who they are and always say “I can.”

Sablan said the students have impressed their school, parents and the community with their perseverance and accomplishment.

“You’ve done the very best you can,” she said.

This year’s other awardees were:

•  “A” Honor — Maniacop, Nelmida, Achondo, Floresca, and Taisacan.

They maintained an “A” average in all core subject areas in their final report card grade with a “B” or better in the bilingual  program and P.E.

• Perfect Attendance — Vinnie Inos Jr., Marco Kaipat, Angelyn Labadan,  Norlina  Igisaiar,  Edwin Muna, Hercia Nekaifes, Achondo, Viktoria Buniag, Braylan Floresca, Sheena Serrano and Taisacan.

• Citizen Award — Inos Jr., Rosien Spis, Angelyn Labadan, Maniacop, Nekaifes, Nelmida, Mele Ani Cepeda, Jasmine Nekaifes and Kyoko Saures.

This award is given to students who have made positive contributions to the school and the community. The award recognizes students who exhibit outstanding behavior and demonstrate a sense of civic responsibility.

• President’s Achievement Award — Marco Kaipat, Jone Langu, Judy Rose Ngirbabul, Midcat Tipingeni, Krisna Balolong, Aghilimal Jesus Faisao, Hercia Nekaifes, Kenneth Pak, Sherielyn Pamfilo, Kimo Reyes, Shaina Santiago, Roselie Agulto, Mele’ani Cepeda, and Florina Cordero.

• President’s Excellence Award — Angelo Alvarez, Caacbay, Mikaila Camacho, Inos Jr., Labadan, Spis, Habijan, Maniacop, Nelmida, Orsini, Achondo, Floresca, and Taisacan.

The President’s Achievement Award is given to students who have made improvements in all subjects areas throughout the sixth grade, while the President’s Excellence Award is for students who have achieved high academic goals through their hard work and dedication to learning while maintaining an “A” average throughout  sixth grade.

• Subject awards — Orsini for Language Arts; Maniacop and Floresca for Math; Caacbay and Maniacop for Science; Spis and Orsini for Social Studies.

• Chamorro and Carolinian Language Heritage Studies Awards — Inos Jr., for Carolinian and Mikaila Camacho for Chamorro.

• Athlete Award — Inos Jr. and Hercia Nekaifes.
