11-hour water outage to affect Rapagao area

CUC’s deputy director for water and wastewater operations, Bruce Megarr, said the water outage will start from 7:30 a.m. and end at 6:30 p.m.

“Residents are encouraged to practice strict water conservation and to teach children and household workers to save water, especially during this period,” Megarr said.

He said the CUC water division distribution maintenance crew is scheduled to work on the Maui IV booster station pump tank reservoir.

The operation is intended to seal all holes and openings, and inspect, clean and disinfect the storage tank, he added.

“This required work is necessary to protect treated stored water and provide improved overall water quality for public consumption,” Megarr said.

This work, he added, will enable CUC water to comply with the federal stipulated order concerning drinking water operations and correcting major sanitary deficiencies noted during storage tanks inspections.

He said rainwater catchments system and water tank should be cleaned and float valves installed or replaced to ensure that water does not overflow from tanks.

Water service will be restored as soon as the work is completed, he said.

On Monday, Megarr told the Legislature that CUC may ration water on Saipan due to a “moderate drought” affecting the island for over the past three years.
