Schools, Public Health, Public Safety briefed on emergency response

According to Patrick O’ Brien, adjunct instructor of the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education, the course focused on enhancing the cooperation capabilities of the Public School System to respond to a disaster.

Over 35 participants attended the training conducted by the local Homeland Security office.

In an interview, O’ Brien said the goal of the two-day course was to make sure that the entities responsible for emergency response and PSS are brought together to create a structure that will ensure a timely response to emergencies.

Participants can still seek other training opportunities offered by U.S. Homeland Security and similar agencies like the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

In the next two weeks, O’Brien said they will hold more training sessions that will be provided by firefighters from the U.S.

He said the CNMI is fortunate to have school, police and fire personnel with a good working relationship.

“That has been a very positive feedback that we’ve been getting from local agencies,” he said.

Also discusses were federal resources that can be accessed by the CNMI during emergencies.
