THE proposed amendments to the government health insurance regulation will be discussed in a Senate public hearing next week.

Sen. Ricardo S. Atalig, R-Rota and chairman of the Committee on Health, Education and Welfare, said the public hearing will be held on May 28, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at the Senate chamber on Capitol Hill.

He said the public hearing will focus on the proposed amendments to the government health insurance plan and the Retirement Fund’s agreement with Hawaii Pacific Medical Referral as its third party administrator.

Attorney General Robert T. Torres, Health Secretary James U. Hofschneider, Public Auditor Michael S. Sablan, Retirement Fund Administrator Karl T. Reyes, the Fund’s Board Chairman Vicente Camacho and Arnold Baptiste, chairman of HPMR, have been asked to attend the hearing.

In related news, the Senate Public Utilities, Transportation and Communication public hearing on Rota will be held today at the island’s courthouse starting at 1 p.m.

The hearing was scheduled last week but was canceled due to a tropical storm warning.

The committee will discuss four key measures: S.B. 13-12, on the qualifications of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s board members; S.B. 13-14, on the water rates for local farmers and ranchers; S.B. 13-35 and S.B. 13-46, which would affect CUC’s utility rates and regulations.
