Senate to ‘review’ report on Ada contract

Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota, instructed Sen. Francisco Q. Cruz, R-Tinian and the committee chairman, to review the report transmitted to the Senate by the Office of the Public Auditor.

In his letter to Cruz, Manglona said it is a “very important issue and I ask your committee to give its full attention to this issue.”

Manglona gave the committee 30 days to report its own findings and recommendations.

In a telephone interview, Cruz said they will  have to sit down with the Senate legal counsel before they come up with a recommendation.

Cruz said if the Attorney General’s Office is not going to act on the issue, his committee may recommend action.

The inspector general said the contract awarded to Ada is null and void.

Asked if his committee will recommend the return of the money paid to Ada, Cruz said it is premature for him to comment about it since his committee just received the package containing the report.

But he said the Senate is not going to be silent about the issue.

Public Auditor Mike Pai told Variety in an interview last week that “actions have to be taken by local officials first if they want [OPA] to do something further with the report and they will instruct us on that.”
