Senator: Inos will be given chance to defend himself

Lawmakers have received copies of a letter claiming that Inos received “split checks to circumvent procurement laws.”

According to the letter, “It appears like Governor Fitial took lightly his constitutional authority to nominate a judge. We have many qualified attorneys in our community from which to select. Yet he caught everyone by surprise by succumbing to political pressure and appointing Perry Inos.”

San Nicolas, Covenant-Tinian, said he will request Sen. Paterno S. Hocog, R-Rota and chairman of the the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation, to look into the allegations against Inos.

“The things that have been written there is something we cannot take lightly,” San Nicolas said. “Whether it’s true or not, it’s something that must be discussed by the members.”

But Inos, he added, should be given the chance to present his side of the story.

“When it comes to the confirmation hearing, we have to give him the chance to defend himself,” San Nicolas said.

Gregorio T. Cruz Jr. of the Taotao Tano group told the Variety that Inos has close ties with the Fitial administration.

“Mr. Perry Inos is listed as a shareholder [of Resources Management International Corp.], which profited from expedited sole-source construction contracts involving [capital improvement projects],” Cruz said.

Inos’ involvement in  sole-source contracts should be investigated by the senators, Cruz added.

The government awards sole-source contracts to a company if it is the only one that has the capacity to provide the products or services required for a particular project.

These contracts do not go through the bidding process.
