Senator says reports of homestead favors disturbing

Sen. Jude Hofschneider, R-Tinian and committee chairman, said the public hearing on land issues will be held on Nov. 13  in the Senate chamber on Capital Hill.

Del Rosario and Assistant Attorney General Brad Huesman were invited to the hearing.

In a letter to Del Rosario, Hofschneider said: “As you are aware, recent accusations have surfaced in the media alleging that quitclaim deeds have been unfairly issued to favored applicants.”

According to the senator, “While the committee takes no position on this issue at this time, it is disturbing that there may be other homestead applicants similarly situated that have not yet been awarded deeds…. I am certain that you too would like this matter resolved so that there may be no appearance of impropriety at DPL.”

DPL was asked to provide Hofschneider’s committee a list of all qualified homestead applicants, particularly from Rota and Tinian, and all public lands that have been deeded as agricultural sites over the past five years.
