SHEFA clarifies grant-in-aid award

A student who is enrolled in a four-year course told Variety that she received $1,200 only which is what a student taking up an associate degree course is getting.

Hofschneider said both students should receive the same amount.

He said SHEFA awards the same amount of grant-in-aid to on-island students enrolled at an institution of higher education.

Yesterday, he added, SHEFA  made another follow-up request with the Department of Finance regarding the remaining $139,600 in grant-in-aid funds.

He said they have yet to disburse all the checks for the recipients of the grant-in aid awards.

“At least 113 checks need to be disbursed to complete the total requested earlier for disbursement, which was 636,” he added.

Of the 113 checks, 44  are for new recipients on-island amounting to $52,800; 63 for on-going on-island students, $75,600; three for new off-island students, $6,000; and three for ongoing off-island students, $6,000.

Each student on-island will get $1,200 for grant-in-aid while those off-island will receive $2,000 each.
