Solomons gov’t warns of dubious work scheme

HONIARA (Pacnews) — Solomon Islands Foreign Affairs Ministry has cautioned the public against wasting their time and money on the dubious work scheme promoted by the Honiara private company, Vicsun International Agency.

Assistant Secretary to Regional Economic Cooperation Beraki Jino said plans by the company to recruit Solomon Islanders to pick fruits in New Zealand do not exist.

Jino said the ministry has warned Vicsun International Agency to cease its recruitment scheme because it is giving false hope to young people.

The government statement was issued after it was tipped off by the New Zealand Immigration Service in Fiji that there are no special work schemes for Solomon Islanders in New Zealand. Jino said the ministry is aware that many young people in the capital, Honiara, have submitted their names expressing their interest to go and work in New Zealand.
