Suspect in Easter Sunday machete attack arrested

Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman raised the cash bail imposed on Melvin Babauta Cabrera to $25,000 from the recommended $10,000.

Police said the incident happened on Sunday afternoon  at a residence in Chalan Kanoa.

The victim informed Melvin that she was leaving him. Minutes later, the children saw Cabrera choking their mother  and  was about to strike her with a machete.

A male relative of the victim  was able to grab Cabrera’s machete, but sustained a minor cut in his left palm as a result of the struggle for the machete, police said.
