Susupe flea market continues to enjoy brisk business

Biz Aid Saipan Enterprises Inc., the company that launched the garage sale and flea market on Oct. 11 last year, said more and more people flock to the area on Saturdays to buy things at lower prices.

“Vendors continue to enjoy brisk sales from customers every week, and the number of vendors who display their wares kept increasing,” Biz Aid Saipan said.

Despite the financial crisis, people are still looking for both used and brand new items sold at huge discounts, it added.

The booths are supposed to open at 10 a.m. each Saturday but as early as 7 a.m., customers are already in the area, even before some vendors can set up their displays.

A Biz Aid staff member said  the people are now used to finding needed items at the international garage.

Those who are leaving the island find the Saturday market-style garage the best place to display their things for sale.

“It has become a one-stop shop for buyers and sellers to buy and sell things at very low prices,” the staffer said.

He added that more and more people are finding it practical to buy things from there.

Customers at the international garage can buy brand new and secondhand items such as clothing, electronic and computer gadgets, shoes and sandals, perfume and toiletries, car parts, kitchen utensils, household appliances, fishing gear, toys, office supplies, jewelry and ladies accessories, and other items.

Biz Aid president Yoshiro Kishimoto ealier said that the market-style garage was patterned after the famous Akiba Street in Japan.

He said tourists were the original target for the international garage but the majority of the customers are local residents.
