KOROR (Palau Horizon) — Mayor Lai Kuan Cheng of Taitung City, Taiwan visited Palau recently with more than 30 businessmen and potential investors.
Taitung City has a sisterhood arrangement with Aimeliik State. The mayor and his delegation were met at the airport by Ambassador Clark Chen, Aimeliik Gov. Demei Obak and officials from the Ministry of State.
Lai and his delegation visited their sister city of Aimeliik and were entertained by the people there.
On June 17, Palau hosted an investment seminar including presentations from the Office of the President, the Palau Visitors Authority, the Foreign Investment Board, Palau International Coral Reef Center, the Bureau of Human Resources and the Bureau of Marine Resources.
Minister of Commerce and Trade Otoichi Besebes made the opening remarks to formally open the seminar. Minister of State Temmy Shmull offered the welcoming remarks and presented a gift to the visiting Taiwanese on behalf of President Tommy Remengesau and Palau.
In his remarks, Shmull stressed Palau’s strong commitment to maintain and strengthen the two countries’ “close relations and to aggressively promote investment and business opportunities among our business communities.”
