Commonwealth Ports Authority board member Ramon A. Tebuteb reports on CPA’s finances during a board meeting in the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting classroom on Tuesday.

THE Commonwealth Ports Authority board of directors on Tuesday elected board member Ramon A. Tebuteb as the new vice chairman.

Board member Thomas P. Villagomez nominated Tebuteb, which another board member, Pete P. Reyes, seconded.

All the board members present voted for Tebuteb, who also chairs the board’s financial affairs committee. The board’s previous vice chairman, Roman Tudela, resigned in January.

Newly sworn-in board member, Antonio “Potu” Cabrera, who attended a CPA board meeting for the first time “wondered” why it took so long for CPA to elect a new vice chairman.

Reyes said since the board had a chairwoman — Kimberlyn King-Hinds — there was not a pressing need to have a new vice chairman.

King-Hinds said they now needed to elect a vice chairman because her and Reyes’ terms are expiring in October.

To ensure continuity, King-Hinds said the board must have a vice chairman who will be the acting chairman once her term expires.

Cabrera said he was just curious to know why it took a long time to elect a new vice chairman. He ended the discussion by saying, “I have no further comment.”

Board member Joseph Diaz was excused from the meeting due to an urgent family matter.
