Thespian scholarship application deadline extended

Local scholarship funds from TWPI are matched by the Educational Theatre Association, which manages the scholarship.

This year’s scholarship is only open to seniors graduating in the spring of 2011. The deadline previously set for this year’s scholarship was inadvertently placed on Easter Sunday.  Therefore, the deadline has been extended by the TWPI board of directors.  All applications with supporting documentation must be turned in to Harold Easton at Marianas High School, room D 101 by 2 p.m. on Friday April 29, 2011.

Applications are available from Easton or any Thespian troupe director or board member. Scholarship awards are a minimum of $400 and upward.

Scholarship eligibility criteria are as follows:

• High School Grade Point Average requirement of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

• Acceptance for study in a performing arts related program at a post secondary institution. Such a program would include a major or minor in a theater arts or communication field; an education degree with an emphasis on theater arts is acceptable.

• Membership in the International Thespian Society by both the student and the high school the applicant attends.

• Minimum of three years theater or other performing arts experience.

• Minimum of two years Thespian Troupe or chapter experience.

• An essay stating how the applicant will use his/her performing arts education upon graduation from the college or university.

The Educational Theatre Association will release the scholarship to the college or university that the student will attend after verification of enrolment.

Students who receive this scholarship will submit a transcript to the Thespians of the Western Pacific Islands at the end of their first year of college or university attendance.
