Thespians team seeks community support

Thespians of the Western Pacific Islands board member Jane Mack, who was the guest of the Saipan Rotary Club, yesterday said  the CNMI students show a lot of promise and talent.

“There are so many ways for the community to help our young students in their upcoming projects, and we can use all the support we can get to encourage our students,” Mack said.

The community can support the Saipan productions by buying advertisements in the playbills, donating food or drinks for rehearsals, buying a block of seats at the plays and coming to the plays.

Mack said anyone can also support the Saipan competitions by volunteering as judges and donating water, gift certificates or prizes.

“You can also support our festival team by sponsoring a student competitor for college audition, or in a new area such as marketing, duet musical, playwriting and donating for college scholarships,” Mack said.

Scholarships could go up to $1,000 per student who wants to major or minor in dramatic arts or communication.

Mack said the upcoming project of the Thespians will be a Halloween presentation entitled “Zombie Prom,” by John Dempsey.

This year, 15 local students joined the International Thespian Festival in Nebraska and came home rich with workshop experiences. Most of them received callbacks to audition in different colleges in the U.S.

The Thespians of the Western Pacific Islands, a chapter of the International Thespian Society, is an honor society for students in grades six through 12 who have shown dedication, promise and excellence in the dramatic arts.
