Three suspects in New Year’s eve robbery have yet to be identified

Department of Public Safety Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela said investigation is still going on.

“We are working on the case and we would like to ask the cooperation of the community to call us if they know anything about the identity of the suspects,” he said.

Except for the robbery incident, Tudela said Saipan welcomed the New Year peacefully.

“Thankfully, there were no other untoward incidents during the year end and we thank the cooperation of our police officers,” Tudela said.

DPS spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said police responded to a call reporting a robbery incident at the C.Y.C. Store in San Vicente at about 11:34 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2008.

Ogumoro said based on the preliminary investigation, two masked male individuals entered the establishment and demanded money from the store’s 22-year old female cashier.

She said both suspects, who were wearing brown long sleeved shirts and khaki-colored masks, were armed with knives. When another employee of the store came in, a third suspect armed with a blunt object struck him on the chest.

The suspects then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money and store merchandise.

Ogumoro said medics who responded to the scene treated the male victim who refused to seek medical attention at the Commonwealth Health Center.

DPS is asking anyone with  information about this  crime to call Crime Stoppers at 234-7272.

All calls are anonymous and no caller ID is used.

A reward of up to $1,000 is given for any information that will lead to an arrest.
