Tinian revenue officer accused of harassment

Hae Sook Shin Na, general manager of Keosong Marine World Corp., said Sakisat had been coming to her business to conduct inspections and harass her employees.

“This harassment…has been going on for the past three months,” she said.

Shin Na is asking the Department of Finance to investigate Sakisat who, she said, “has abused his authority of closing our business for the next 10 days for no reason at all.”

In her letter to Finance, Shin Na said Sakisat and Edward Shai, now the acting Finance resident director, went to her establishment at Taga Beach and closed their business area by placing a yellow tape around the facility.

Shin Na said they have been paying taxes and business license fee ahead of time.

“To date our business license is valid including our lease agreement with public land in the Taga Beach area,” she said.

A document obtained by Variety showed the valid business license application of Keosong Marine World Corp.

Another document showed that Keosong was current in its license fee payments.

Variety repeatedly called Sakisat at the Finance office on Tinian yesterday but nobody answered the phone.

Sakisat, in his letter April 21, informed Shin Na that Finance-Tinian would suspend all business licenses of  Keosong Marine World for 10 days.

“This temporary suspension of your company’s business licenses is necessary in order for the Tinian business license to conduct its investigation on several complaints brought to the attention of the Tinian business license office,” he said in the letter.

Sakisat also said the complaint against the corporation would be investigated by their office.

He warned Shin Na that they would impose a $500 fine plus $100 penalty per day the corporation would open its business during the 10-day suspension. The company also faces a “possible permanent suspension of your company’s business license.”

Variety earlier learned that the resident director of Finance on Tinian resigned last Friday over the closure of Keosong Marine.

The company complained to Tinian Mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz who asked for an explanation from Evangelista.

But instead of explaining himself, Evangelista decided to resign, Variety was told.
