“The appointment of his royal highness signifies the importance which his majesty’s government places on the close and cordial relationship between Tonga and Australia,” said Tongan Prime Minister Feleti Sevele.
The appointment was formally approved by King George V on the recommendation of the cabinet.
The Australian government has also approved the crown prince’s appointment as Tongan high commissioner to Australia. He begins his diplomatic postings today.
He is scheduled to present his credentials to Australian Governor General Michael Jeffery on Aug. 28.
