Rep. Stanley T. Torres, Ind.-Saipan, said the signs are “misleading advertisements.”
He asked Zoning Administrator Therese Ogumoro to look into these pawnshops’ operations.
“These signs are regulated by your zoning office and it would help if you could suspend the ‘enforcing’ and/or harassing of the innocent business people and investigate the real problems on Saipan, e.g., the two ‘24-hour’ pawnshops,” the lawmaker wrote to Ogumoro.
A licensed pawnshop cannot operate between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.
Torres is complaining that some pawnshops are accepting stolen items and enabling poker addicts to get the cash they needed for their vice.
