Truly a product of love and caring

The Tinian Parent-Teacher-Student Association officers along with Santos are happy to express their congratulations to all the students who participated in the Math Court competition held on Saipan at Chacha Junior High School on Feb. 19.  Out of 21 Tinian students who participated in the event, 13 placed in the competition.

“It is truly a product of ‘Love and Caring’ highlighting Tinian Elementary School character education concept for the month of February,” Santos said.  “Many people contributed to our students’ success.  First, all our participating students worked hard to earn the right to represent our school by scoring highest on the Star Math computer-based assessment and the SAT 10 last school year’s results for grade 3 who are now 4th graders, and  grade 5th  who are now 6th graders.  Second, our students’ coaches spent hours after school to help perfect student skills for the competition.

Third, our parents provided home support for their children and sponsored a fund raiser (flower gram) to help pay for the travel by selling flowers on Valentine Day.  We have students who are not going to the math court buying flowers for their teachers and parents. We have grandparents buying flowers for their grandchildren, and teachers buying flowers for their students.  Altogether the PTSA sold 170 roses.”

Thanks are also due to the school’s community partnership with Star Marianas, which provided a good discount air fare so that students, coach/teachers and parent/chaperones could attend the event on Saipan.

“Without their generous support, it is unlikely that our students could have attended.  Similarly, Tinian Mayor Ramon Dela Cruz and Senator Jude Hofschneider helped the students’ meals and ground transportation,” Santos said.

She emphasizes that it takes a village or community to educate a child.  “We are very proud of every student who represented Tinian Elementary School.  Sen Dankulu na Si Yu’us Ma’asi to those who supported our students’ education experience.”
