Tudela says cop involved in mauling incident

“I want to give you facts. There are allegations against one member of the Department of Public Safety. I expect a full report submitted [today],” Tudela told the Variety.

He said he instructed Criminal Investigation Bureau commander Sgt. Paul Ogumoro to investigate the incident in which  Jin Dong Wang, 44, suffered head and ribcage injuries.

Wang said a police officer hit him in the head with a handgun, handcuffed him, and kicked him several times at his barracks in As Lito.

Santiago said Wang was “struggling” when the police officer approached the victim who now works as a barber.

“I will not tolerate such abuse of authority,” Tudela said. “I am seriously looking into the case. And with facts at hand, I will impose severe disciplinary action including suspension against the officer involved.”

Tudela said the operation was covered by a search and arrest warrant involving a compound in As Lito where Wang was staying.

Wang resisted arrest, Variety was told.

Authorities involved in the operation were wearing shirts that had the word “police” on them, Variety learned.

Wang, who was not taken into custody by the police after the incident, was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center.

Wang’s wife said she was asked by the police if she knew the person in the picture shown to her, identified as Junding Qiu, who was wanted for possession and trafficking of “ice.”

She said she didn’t know the suspect.
