Tuvalu records first five cases of H1N1

A nationwide announcement was made on Radio Tuvalu to alert the nation of the first recorded case, which is believed to have been from people who have traveled recently.

Assistant Health Secretary Stephen Homasi said the cases were confirmed after specimens were sent to the Tamavua Laboratory in Fiji.

“Of the confirmed cases, five of them are children and one is adult,” Homasi said.

“Some of them had traveled out of the country and some had contacts with people who had traveled to countries affected by swine flu,” he added.

Tuvalu’s health department has a stockpile of Tamil flu drugs for treatment of people affected by swine flu.

The confirmed cases have not been admitted to hospital but have been advised to stay home until they have fully recovered.
