Rabby Syed, Saipan City Taxi Association president, said they are hoping that Rahall will ask the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to reconsider the exlusion of China and Russia from the program.
Otherwise, he said, “the program will have drastic effect on the employment condition of local businesses.”
Syed told Rahall that losing the Chinese and Russian markets will bring hardship to the tourism industry, including taxi operators.
He said the CNMI unemployment rate will further rise even as the people are already struggling to survive and provide for their families.
