Two men who stole air-conditioning unit get five-day jail term

In yesterday’s hearing, Associate Judge David A. Wiseman also placed Dennis I. Ngeskebei, 40, and Raymond I. Duenas, 39, on probation for the rest of their jail term.

The defendants, who entered into a plea agreement, will each pay  a $50 fine, a $25 assessment fee and $200 in restitution to the victim.

The two will perform 50 hours of community work service, write a letter of apology to the victim, stay away from Nova Fun & Games poker parlor, and obey all commonwealth and federal laws.

They must seek full-time employment and will not leave the CNMI without permission from the probation officer.

They will also submit to an evaluation by the Community Guidance Center.

They will report to the Department of Corrections on Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. and  will be released at 6 p.m. on Oct. 22.

The theft incident at Nova Fun & Games in Chalan Kanoa was reported to the police at about 8:30 a.m. on March 19, 2007.

Police said surveillance footage showed the two defendants stepping out of a blue Nissan pick-up truck and heading toward the air-conditioning unit.

Ngeskebei later admitted to the police that they stole the air-conditioning unit.

He said he and Duenas drove behind the poker parlor and asked a man if the air-conditioning unit was broken.

When the man told them it was, they loaded the air-conditioning unit into their truck and sold it to Triple Star Recycling for $14.
