Hasan said the aim of the Uighur resettlement program is to continue to look for a third country for the six former detainees.
Palau is the temporary home for the Uighurs.
“They are satisfied here and thankful,” Hasan told reporters.
But “we have high expectations for the U.S. government to make continued efforts to relocate them to a permanent home,” he added.
Hasan noted that Australia and the U.S. have Uighur communities.
The Australian government, however, has rejected the Uighurs’ asylum application three times.
Hasan, who visited Palau recently, said Uighur leader Rebiya Kadeer told him to meet the former detainees who are now in this island nation.
Kadeer’s visit to Palau was postponed due to China’s execution of eight Uighur Muslims on charges of involvement in the deadly unrest in the Muslim-majority Xinjiang region of China.
Hasan said Kadeer is still planning to visit Palau in the future.
