employees entitled to housing benefits will get them this week — or before the end of this year, Public Health Deputy Secretary Pedro T. Untalan said yesterday.
“I understand their disappointment,”
said Untalan, who just arrived from Australia’s pandemic influenza summit, referring to the complaint of 26 health workers who didn’t receive their housing allowances on Friday.
But he said some health workers continue to receive the housing benefits.
According to Untalan, contracts are being reviewed
to ensure that only those who are entitled will get the housing allowance.
“It’s not that we don’t want to pay. Remember, we are doing massive processing,”
he said
A CHC worker, who has yet to receive her housing allowance, said their contracts
should no longer be reviewed because they were signed by administration and Public Health officials.
“When they signed the contracts, surely they read them first,” she added.
Untalan reiterated that the reinstatement
of the housing allowance is now a cash-flow issue.
“We should be able to get some movements before the end of this week,” he added.
