U.S. Department of the Interior Intergovernmental and External Affairs Director Shanthan Ready Alonso thanked Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero for taking time to accompany Interior Secretary Deb Haaland in her weeklong tour in the Pacific Islands in July last year.
During the tour, Haaland visited the CNMI, Guam, Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia. She met with Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and other CNMI leaders, and visited natural and cultural sites in the islands.
In her letter to the CNMI Senate president, Alonso said she is grateful “for the time you took to spend with Secretary Deb Haaland during her tour of the Pacific Islands.”
“The department’s leadership deeply appreciated learning about the impact of Typhoon Mawar and seeing first-hand, how the [Biden] Administration’s Investing in America agenda is aiding in recovery efforts. We are thankful for every bit of progress we make together toward climate resilience, healthy ecosystems, and cultural preservation,” Alonso said.
The Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs serves as a liaison for governmental and non-governmental partners in strengthening relationships with the Office of the Interior Secretary.
