Lito Concepcion, a farmer and vegetable vendor, said his sales last Saturday were higher as compared to the same period from last year.
Concepcion, whose earnings every Saturday or Tuesday typically range from $150 to $200, said he earned more than $300 on the first Saturday of the year.
He said the holiday season was good for vegetable vendors.
Marilou Agluba, another vegetable vendor, said she had more customers during the first Saturday and Tuesday of the year.
She is expecting to have fewer customers after the holiday season because “people will no longer be buying much now that the holidays are over.”
Asked which products sell the best, Agluba said the items of which she sells the most are potatoes and round fruits.
“Filipino clients bought round-shaped fruits that symbolize luck in their New Year tradition,” she added.
Other vendors interviewed by this reporter yesterday said they are also hoping for a better year.
“Let us stay positive,” one of them said.
He said he is hoping that he will have more crops and that the government will provide more assistance to small businesspeople like him.
