Last Saturday, the group of about 50 volunteers headed by block captain Rose T. Ada-Hocog cleaned the cemetery in Chalan Kanoa.
“The upcoming holidays are part of our motivation. Love, honor, respect, faith and charity are the major motivational factors in this project. We know that there are many folks out there who are experiencing hard times and are worrying about everything from paying bills to putting food on the table,” she said.
This Saturday, the Koblerville Neighborhood Watch, the Dandan Neighborhood Watch, Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Ray Batallion and CNMI parolees will continue the cleanup campaign at the Chalan Kanoa cemetery, she said.
The group needs more volunteers, Ada-Hocog said, adding that they will proceed to Tanapag cemetery after they complete the cleanup in Chalan Kanoa.
She said they will get the assistance of Marianas High School cadets for Saturday’s cleanup drive.
“We wanted to help ease the people’s worries a bit, and cleaning the gravesites of their immediate family members was one way that we figured we could help,” she said.
Ada-Hocog said they are also experiencing hard times, but they still want to be of service to the community.
“This is the time to be there for each other and help out in any way that we can. We maybe poor in funds, but we are rich in love,” she added.
The project, she said, was initiated by Ed Tenorio, Joseph Torres, Bobby Torres, Doris Nique, Lily Manalili and Fr. Ryan Jimenez.
