“We are inviting interested volunteers in the community to join us organize this year’s dog show,” CNMI-PAWS president Katie Busenkell said.
PAWS is looking for volunteers who are responsible adults, committed, task oriented, and able to drive.
Busenkell told the Variety that the annual dog show has become a popular event that provides an excellent opportunity to promote the benefits of animal welfare.
The event was originally started on Saipan in 2008 as part of the celebration of National Pet Week in May, but Busenkell said due to a lack of volunteers, they were not able to host the event this spring.
“We haven’t given up on the idea of hosting the event again this year, and if we have enough volunteers, we may consider hosting the event in the fall, when the weather cools down a bit and everyone returns from being off-island for summer vacation,” Busenkell said.
She said it takes a few months of planning, so soliciting for volunteers now would certainly give them a feel for whether a dog show is even possible.
Busenkell said as soon as volunteers will sign up, they will schedule a meeting maybe late next month or early August as everyone seems to be off-island during the early summer months.
