MICHAEL Olaitiman, who had an active arrest warrant, was apprehended at 4:09 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, according to Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop, the Department of Public Safety’s acting public information officer.

Earlier, DPS issued a wanted notice seeking the community’s assistance in locating Olaitiman.

According to Manacop, “On Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 7:43 p.m., DPS officers were dispatched to a disturbing the peace complaint at a residence on Capital Hill. Officers learned from a female victim that the defendant, Michael Olaitiman, had been disturbing and beating her for over a week. Investigations revealed that the victim was slapped on the face while she was asleep. She…later walked to a relative’s house and called for police assistance.”

“Officers further learned that a week prior to her reporting the incident, Olaitiman had held the victim and her children inside their apartment and would not let them out. He would threaten to kill her and their children, and would pinch her hard in her stomach. Olaitiman had also grabbed their son on the neck after he tried to stop him from beating the victim,” Manacop added.

Olaitiman was charged with disturbing the peace, assault and battery, and kidnapping.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho issued an arrest warrant for Olaitiman on July 4 and set the bail at $50,000.

DPS later received a tip on Olaitiman’s whereabouts, which led to his arrest on July 10, 2024, at 4:09 p.m.

“He was found inside a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Saipan Vegas in Chalan Laulau,” Manacop said.

“Olaitiman is now being detained at the Department of Corrections pending a bail hearing that is scheduled for tomorrow morning [today, Thursday] in Superior Court. DPS would like to thank the community for their assistance that led to the apprehension of Olaitiman,” Manacop said.
