Based on CUC’s current and proposed rates schedule, starting on June 3, 2009 the monthly service charge is $10.86 from $8.43 on April 3, 2009 for the 5/8–3/4 meter size.
In an interview, CUC deputy director for water and wastewater Bruce Megarr said the increase was based on the recommendation of the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission to address CUC’s $5.99 million water revenue deficit.
For the metered service, either residential or commercial, the rates increased from $1.41 on April 3 to $1.81 on June 3, 2009 for the first 3,000 gallons.
For 3,001 to 15,000 gallons, the new rate is $4.34; for every 15,001 to 30,000 gallons, $5.43; for 30,001 to 60,000 gallons, $6.34; and for over 60,000 gallons, $7.24.
For the unmetered service of residential and commercial customers, for the first 3,000 gallons CUC is charging $0.91; $2.17 for 3,001 to 15,000 gallons; $2.72 for 15,001 to 30,000; $3.17 for 30,001 to 60,000; and $3.62 for over 60,000 gallons.
For the power rates, the $0.22989 per kilowatt-hour decreased to $0.21747 starting on April 3, 2009.
The $0.22989 took effect in January after CUC implemented the aggregate levelized energy adjustment clause, or LEAC rate, which replaces the fluctuating monthly electric rate that CUC used to set every month according to the current oil price.
