Wells Fargo’s Saipan, 637 other branches to close down Sept. 4

She said 637 other independent consumer finance offices nationwide, including Guam’s, will cease operation on the same date.

“We would like to make it clear that only Wells Fargo Financial will be closing down. All the other company network operations which include 6,600 Wells Fargo and Wachovia Community Banking stores and 2,200 Wells Fargo Home Mortgage stores will continue,” Rodriguez said.

She said the company will  consolidate its Wells Fargo Financial Consumer Division into a “newly expanded coast to coast community banking network.”

2,800 positions will be eliminated in the next 60 days as Wells Fargo Financial shuts down 638 branches. 1,000 more positions will be eliminated in the next 12 months.

On Saipan, about 12 to 14 employees will be losing their jobs.

Business as usual

“We will not be losing our existing customers because we will continue to serve you without disruption,” Rodriguez said.

A press statement that Rodriguez furnished to the Variety stated that “home loans, auto loans and credit cards previously offered by Wells Fargo Financial will be consolidated with similar products across the company and will be offered through the company’s network of community banking stores, mortgage stores, phone banks, and wellsfargo.com.”
