Witness recounts how suspects beat up security guard

A GOVERNMENT witness testified yesterday how murder suspects Sidney Tenorio Camacho and his cousin, Alex Agulto Camacho, beat up a security guard at Nikko Hotel in 1996.

Raynaldo Llamzon said he saw Sidney Camacho and Alex Camacho beating up Bernardo M. Tique at the hotel’s swimming pool area at 8 p.m. on Dec. 1, 1996.

Llamzon was the supervisor of the security agency assigned at Nikko Hotel at the time. He instructed Tique, through the radio, to check if there were people swimming in the pool.

Llamzon said when Tique responded on the radio that there were persons, including two hotel employees, in the pool area, he told the security guard that he was on his way to the place.

At the time, the witness said, he was not thinking there would be problem because the two hotel employees—Christopher Camacho and Jeffrey Tenorio—were also in the pool premises.

Llamzon that said when he arrived, he saw a man he later identified as Alex Camacho in the water at the end of a slide.

“I approached (Alex Camacho) and advised him to get off because swimming was not allowed at the time. But he told me to leave him alone,” Llamzon said.

He said that while he was explaining to Alex Camacho why he needed to secure the pool, Tique came along with Christopher Camacho, Jeffrey Tenorio and another person.

The witness said that since he recognized Christopher Camacho as a hotel employee, he asked him to convince Alex Camacho to leave the pool because of the management’s policy.

Christopher Camacho, however, showed him a can of beer and told him “this thing makes a person crazy,” Llamzon said.

He said Alex Camacho got off the pool and stood between him and Chris Camacho.

“Alex Camacho shoved me on the chest and told me to get lost or else he would beat me up,” Llamzon said.

At this point, Llamzon said he pretended to use his radio for police assistance “just to scare” Alex Camacho.

Llamzon said he saw Alex Camacho walked away behind Tique and suddenly punched the victim.

“Tique fell down right away. I responded to defend my officer. I confronted Alex Camacho, but he kicked me on the waist,” said Llamzon, adding that he saw Sidney Camacho stomping on Tique’s head.

The supervisor said he called their station through the radio for security back up and for 911.

Llamzon said Tique was no longer moving and had blood on the face.

He said Alex Camacho repeatedly kicked the victim on the head before he and Sidney Camacho ran away.

Court papers showed that Tique was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center and after three days he was taken to a Philippine hospital. On Dec. 10, 1996, he died.

As of press time yesterday, defense attorneys G. Anthony Long and Joey Arriola were cross-examining the witness.

Tique’s wife, Flordeliza, yesterday testified how she learned about the beating incident. She and Tique have three children.
