Woman indicted for buying, selling Social Security cards

Yingzi Xu, appeared with counsel Steve Pixley, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Schuler represented the government.

The indictment stated that from Feb. 16 to Aug. 3, Xu “knowingly and intentionally attempted and conspired with each other to possess with the intent to use unlawfully and transfer unlawfully five or more identification cards, namely United States Social Security, not issued lawfully for the use of the defendant.”

Xu entered a not guilty plea after a translator was appointed for her. The reading of the indictment was waived.

U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson ordered no bail for Xu, but Xu’s lawyer reserved the right to a bail hearing at a future date.

Munson has set the submission of pretrial motions for Sept. 18.

The jury trial will start on Oct. 5.

The court remanded Xu to U.S. Marshal’s custody after the hearing.
