THE CNMI Women’s Association and the Women’s Affairs Office hosted the 10th Annual CNMI Women’s Summit at the multi-purpose center on May 17.
According to CNMI Women’s Association Board President Dorsha Moreno, this year’s theme was “Nurturing the Whole Woman: Mind, Body, and Spirit.”
The summit was open to the public and included nine presentations.
CNMI Women’s Association Executive Director Linda Cabrera said the theme of the summit was selected to coincide with Women’s Health Month, which is celebrated in May.
Gym owner Jocelyn Itibus presented on strength and physical growth; empowerment coach Becky Mettao presented on mental health; Samantha Sikayun from Public Health Services presented on breast cancer; yo’amte/local healer Donald Mendiola presented on local herbal remedies; registered dietician Maggy Moussalem presented on nutrition; Remedio Mafnas of the Department of Commerce presented on financial health; Beatrice Fatialofa presented on spiritual counseling; and Maisie Tenorio, executive director of the NMI Coalition Against Domestic Violence, presented on domestic violence.
There was also a special screening of “Resilience and Reverence: Wartime and Women of the Northern Mariana Islands,” courtesy of American Memorial Park and Pacific Historic Parks.
Moreno said the goal of the summit was to educate the community.
“[We want] to give information and statistics on what impacts the women in our community the most,” she told Variety.
Cabrera and Moreno both expressed their gratitude to the office of Rep. Denita Yangetmai for her support of the day’s events.
Cabrera said the next major event of the CNMI Women’s Association is its fundraising gala scheduled for July 13. More details will be announced soon, she added.
