The selection of the new officers began on Sept. 30, when all 3rd to 6th grade classroom officers gathered in the WSR cafeteria to nominate the candidates.
Before students began the nomination process, they were reminded that academic achievements, leadership skills, and good moral characters were important factors to consider.
There were a total of 23 candidates for the six council positions, and they were introduced to the student body during the Oct. 4 flag ceremony.
The candidates campaigned on campus from Oct. 4 to 15.
On Oct. 15, all 3rd-6th grade students participated in the first-ever computer-based voting process.
The students cast their votes online in the school’s computer lab.
In previous years it took the entire afternoon to manually count the votes.
The first-ever online voting allowed the school to tally all votes in a matter of minutes.
This also helped incorporate computer literacy and technology into student learning.
Judge David A. Wiseman yesterday swore in the six new officers:
Nathaniel Montano – President
Ariane Reyes – Vice President
Carmela Farmorca – Secretary
Donovon Torres – Treasurer
Coleen Duenas – Public Relations Officer
Korey Leon – Sergeant-At-Arms
Their advisers are:
Reanna Takai
Joseph Muna
Maria Ana Lizama
Jude Loste
KimberlyConcepcion
Rebecca Flores
Marji Pangelinan
Naomi Nishimura
After the swearing-in ceremony, Wiseman and the new student officers gathered in the counselor’s office for a small snack and an opportunity for the students to ask the judge questions.
Wiseman answered their questions but also offered words of wisdom: “This is not about you; it’s about the common good — it’s about the students. You are leaders now. You can make a difference now, be it little or big.”
