Yap counts state election ballots

Of that number, 19 were brought in from the Neighboring Islands onboard the MV. Hapilmohol which arrived in Yap on Nov. 7,  while the the ballot boxes and other absentees arrived onboard the Continental Airline also on Sunday.

The ballot boxes, including absentees were delivered  to voters in the neighboring islands, Palau, Guam, Saipan, Pohnpei, Honolulu and U.S. mainland, prior to the state general election on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

In the meantime, only the ballot boxes which were sent to Palau, Guam and Saipan had been received along with most of the absentee ballots sent off-island. The two ballot boxes sent to Pohnpei and Honolulu were expected to arrive today, Wednesday, along with the rest of the absentee ballots.

The unofficial results showed that the unchallenged team of Gov. Sebastian Anefal and Lt. Gov. Tony Tareg had received a total of 1,729 votes at the end of count as of Nov. 2.

In the senatorial race, Ted Rutun was leading the race among the main island candidates vying for the six seats in the State Legislature. He received a total of 1,158 votes while  Clement Mulalap received a total of 1,022 votes,  followed by Henry Falan with 842, Charles S. Chieng with 747, Joseph Giliko with 729, John E. Mooteb with 695, James Lukan with 668, Genevieve Mangefel with 651, Alphonso Ganang with 422, Christopher Buchun with 342, John Sigrah with 327, and Philip Tamag Ranganbay with 247.

Unofficial results for candidates from the neighboring islands competing for one of the four seats in the State Legislature showed that Jesse Raglmar-Subolmar  received 54 votes from Election District #2. Senator Subolmar was the only candidate running in that  district.

In Election District #3, incumbent John Masiwemai was leading with 41 votes and was trailed by Frank Haregaichig with 34. The third candidate, Alvinus Hasugulfil, received  17.

In Election District #4, Jerry Fagolimul was leading the pack  with 43 votes, followed by Raymond Igechep with 29 and Serphin Ilesiuyalo with 18.

In Election District #5, Sabino Sauchomal led with 48 votes over his opponent Andy Tafileichig.
